Daytona Classic 24 Hour P2 Finish
This was Matthew’s first outing at Daytona International Speedway, but this track is no stranger to the Ave Motorsports team. Matthew learned the track quickly and the Ave Motorsports prepared Mustang was fast out of the gate. Leading up to the Classic 24 Hour race, the team worked hard getting the car dialed in and fixing some mechanical issues along the way. Since the team faced some challenges earlier in the weekend, Matthew started Saturday mornings spring race from the back. He quickly made his way to the front by gaining 13 positions in 7 laps.
Matthew qualified on pole for the Classic 24 Hour race, so the team would start from P1 in class and P7 overall Saturday evening. The team drivers, Matthew Butson and Tony Ave, managed to build over a minute lead in class when an unexpected mechanical issue arose, forcing the team to come in early around 5am. The Ave Motorsports crew quickly addressed the issue and got the car back on track to finish the race. The team finished the 24 hour event with an official race result of P2 in class.
Great way to end the 2023 season, on to 2024!
